M+H Architects designed a major addition and renovation (completed in 2009) for Missouri Military Academy, resulting in Barnard Hall, their new academic building. The total project is around 43,350 SF of building, plus the surrounding site impacted by construction. The building incorporates space for core academics, exploratory/elective spaces, and shared areas such as commons, library, food service and building support spaces. The project achieved Gold LEED Certification and included LEED items such as 40% water use reduction, use of low-emitting materials and reuse of existing materials. Through diligent communication with public or private school boards, department heads and teaching staffs, M+H Architects helps educational institutions focus on their immediate and future needs, and on how to get the most for their investment.
Schools offer a unique challenge. Architecturally, every building requires room-by-room functional design. Communication is the key at each step to satisfy the needs of teaching staff and students, and the financial requirements of the school’s board. There are no precise answers. Each school has a different budget and a singular image to project. That's why, for each educational project we undertake, M+H arrives with a clean slate, ready to learn.
